For nearly twenty years, Duke Energy has been recognized as a sustainability leader and has appeared on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for North America for 17 consecutive years. The company has a clear path to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 and has already retired more than 50 coal units while expanding its renewable energy portfolio. During our visit to their headquarters and facilities in North Carolina, we saw how engineering, operations and environmental teams work together to modernize infrastructure and advance climate goals.
Duke Energy’s energy transition is ambitious in scale and centered on reliability and value for customers. Major investments in grid modernization are building a smarter and more resilient system that supports growing renewable and distributed energy resources. The company is also deploying advanced technologies, including AI-driven forecasting and digital operations tools, to improve efficiency and accelerate decarbonization.
